You may not think that hot tubs and mental health go hand-in-hand, but spending time in a hot tub can help prevent and reduce stress, something often experienced in conjunction with poor mental health.

Let’s face it, always being in a good mental headspace can be difficult at times. Regardless of age, there is always a slew of stressful triggers that can’t always be pushed to the side. In times of high-stress during your life, turn to carving out the time to relax in your hot tub, as it scientifically balances your nervous system.

How Much Time is Necessary?

In order to see the benefits from soaking in a hot tub, try to spend at least 20-30 minutes in it every day. But why exactly is soaking in your hot tub effective in decreasing stress and boosting mental health? Warm-water immersion therapy is often linked to the releasing of dopamine throughout your body, a chemical that helps our bodies combat the negative side effects of stress.

The American Heart Association also recommends taking 15-20 minutes every day for yourself to do deep breathing exercises and to paint a happy mental picture. Choosing to do this during your time in the hot tub is a great way to spend your time in the tub! It may also be beneficial for you to create a relaxing playlist to listen to during this time.

While soaking in a hot tub is no one-size-fits-all cure for mental health issues, it’s a great way to lessen stress and spend quality alone time.
